Solo & Ensemble Festival

National Youth Band
Congratulations to Ness S. on being selected to the National Youth (under 21) Band! This auditioned band, which is comprised of the finest instrumentalists across Canada, will perform in Winnipeg this Spring.
Manitoba Senior Honour Band
Congratulations to the following students on being selected to the Manitoba Senior Honour Band: Ness S., Allison K., Matt K. and Ben K. This band is comprised of the finest musicians in the province and is selected by recorded audition.
Honour Jazz Band
Congratulations to Ben K. on winning the drum position in the Manitoba Intermediate Honour Jazz Band. This auditioned band is comprised of the finest jazz musicians in grade 11 or under.
Brandon Jazz Festival
Congratulations to the Grade 9-10 jazz bands and vocal jazz on their great trip to the non-competitive Brandon Jazz Festival. There were no grades or marks given, but four of our students were nominated by adjudicators as the "most outstanding at their instrument" for the festival! The students nominated were Allison K. and Nicole W. (piano), Skylar G. (bass) and Aiden P. (drums). The adjudicator who worked with grade 10s on the last day of the festival also told the students they were the best rhythm section he heard all weekend!
Manitoba Honour Bands
Congratulations to the following students on being selected to the Manitoba Honour Band. This band is selected by recorded audition from students in all schools across the province. Students representing LCS in the Grade 9-10 band are Nicole W., Allison K., Kyla S. and Markus B. Students representing LCS in the grade 7-8 band are Katrina B., Josh G. and Brennan S.
On Stage with the WSO
Have you ever sung with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra? Our grade 5 students have! Congratulations to Mrs. Dueck and 26 of our grade 5 students who joined the WSO on stage in the Winnipeg Centennial Concert Hall on February 24. It was a wonderful afternoon of music, and our students conducted themselves in a very professional manner.
Optimist Festival
Congratulations to all four ensembles on their success at the recent Optimist Festival. They represented themselves very well and their results reflect their efforts. Junior Wind Ensemble (Gr. 7-8) & Grade 10 Band received invitations to Nationals based on their strong performances! Grade 9 & Senior Bands received invitations to Nationals AND perfect five star ratings!
National Youth Band (ages 16-21)
Congratulations to Ness S. on being selected to the National Youth Band! This band is selected by recorded audition. It is comprised of the top musicians in Canada under the age of 21.
Senior Honour Band
Congratulations to the following students on their fantastic concert with the Manitoba Provincial Senior Honour Band last weekend: Rebecca W., Ness S., Allison K., Riker G. and Ben K.
Rebecca W. was also acknowledged as the student with the most honour band experience in the entire province. Rebecca has been in NINE provincial honour bands since grade 6!
New York News
Our grade 11 and 12 music students were a light to the world on their 2010 New York City trip. All five ensembles received gold ratings at the Heritage Festival. The Vocal Jazz received a trophy for the highest choral mark of the festival. LCS received the Sweepstakes Award for best choral program as well as the Adjudicator's Choice award.
Our Senior Band and Jazz band each received Gold Second Place. Our Chamber Choir recieved Gold First Place, our Concert Choir Gold Second Place and our Jazz Choir (Taste of Lime) Gold. Our Choir finished first overall from all the schools. Rebecca W. was one of 9 soloists acknowledged.
